Deployment of Buoy - Blyth Met Mast

Fugro have deployed a SeaWatch LiDAR Buoy (SWLB); this is a sea state measurement instrument (referred to as ‘the equipment’). The deployment location is within the UK Sector of the North Sea off the coast of Blyth, Northumberland

The equipment is deployed close to the Blyth Met Mast as part of a validation study within the existing met mast 250 m consent zone and will be deployed for approximately one month.

Scheduled maintenance is not planned due to the short deployment duration, but unforeseen maintenance may be required.

The equipment is moored through a combination of steel chains, rope and rubber cord to approximately 2250 kg anchor weight at the seabed.

Application of Triton Knoll Wind Farm Safety Zones During Construction

The Secretary of State has granted the Application of Safety Zones on the Triton Knoll Wind Farm Project as follows:

  • 500m “rolling” safety zones around any structure where construction is being undertaken (as indicated by the presence of construction vessels).
  • 50m pre-commissioning safety zones surrounding partial structures or completed structures prior to commissioning.

 

Demarcation Buoys

Partrac Ltd have deployed x12 Demarcation Buoys and x2 Metocean Buoy at the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm (TKOWF) to mark the perimeter of the TKOWF site boundaries.

 

Vessels are requested to leave a wide berth during the installation operations. The buoys will be deployed for a period of two years, and all equipment will be removed at the end of the installation.

Cable Survey - Caithness-Moray HVDC

Mariners are advised that a Geophysical survey will be undertaken within the 50m corridor. The survey work will be carried out by MMT using the vessel M/V Topaz Tiamat Call Sign: V7A2125 from 1st December for 7 Days

During this survey the vessel will be deploying underwater survey equipment and at such times the survey vessel may have restricted ability to manoeuvre. Vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and distance.

 

Project Description

This Caithness-Moray HVDC Cable Survey is geophysical survey performed on behalf of SHET, the route is approximately 110km long between Portgordon and Noss Head landfalls.

 

Survey task

A detailed Geophysical survey will be carried out within the survey area as detailed on the enclosed chart. The survey work will include work-class ROV operations equipped with Multibeam ecosounder, Side Scan Sonar and High Definition Cameras. At a number of selected locations along the route, cable-tracking equipment is to be used in the end of the campaign.

 

Please be aware that by virtue of its mode of operation the Topaz Tiamat will be Restricted in her Ability to Manoeuvre as defined under International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, Rule 3. Masters of vessels are therefore requested to maintain their vessels and gears at a minimum safe distance from the vessel of 500 metres when it is undertaking work and showing the appropriate shapes and lights in accordance with COLREGs Rule 18.

Beach Survey - Hornsea Project Four

Orsted Hornsea Project Four Limited will be carrying out beach based geophysical surveys between December 2020 and January 2021 for the purposes of geological investigation of the cable landing for the proposed Hornsea Four Offshore Wind Farm.

Activities will take place in the Hornsea Four landfall area. The extent of the area in which the survey will be conducted is shown in the map overleaf. Survey personnel and equipment will arrive and undertake works from an all-terrain vehicle on the beach.

 

The operations are planned to commence in December 2020 or January 2021 and last approximately 3-4 weeks. The exact survey dates are dependent on weather and work progress.

Survey technicians will access the beach with an all-terrain vehicle(s) and the beach area will be surveyed by technicians on foot with handheld geophysical survey equipment.

The beach will remain open to the public and every effort will be made to ensure that the survey does not inhibit existing beach use.

Met Mast Decluttering & decommissioning works - Moray Offshore Windfarm (East)

Met Mast De-cluttering and Decommissioning Please be advised that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited (Moray East) will be carrying out Decommissioning and removal of the met mast steel lattice tower and subsea cut of the monopile circa 24/11/2020 for approximately 14 days not inclusive of weather downtime. Personnel and equipment for these works will be based initially on the JUV GMS Endeavour (Figure 1) for decluttering, once the tower structure is demobilised the transition piece and lower section of the monopile will be removed by the Salina (Figure 2). The Selina will be assisted by KML Sarah Grey and KML Severn Sea (Figure 3 & Figure 4). Windcat 6 (Figure 6) will be used for safety purposes providing over the side cover whilst the lattice tower is disassembled by rope access teams. On completion of the works there will be an underwater obstruction to navigation comprising the concrete caisson and lower section of the monopile. A special mark buoy will be deployed to mark the obstruction and a further NTM will be issued once the buoy is installed with its position. The location of the Met Mast where the decommissioning works will take place is depicted in Figure 8.

Tolmount Development Area

Notice to alert sea users to the mobilisation of the MODU Valaris 123 Jackup Unit in Block 42/28d in October 2020.

The Tolmount minimum facilities platform has been installed on behalf of the Tolmount Development Project (comprising Premier Oil UK Limited, ODE Asset Management Limited and Humber Gathering System Limited (HGSL)) in UKCS Block 42/28d and an ERRV remains on location in field. 

 

The Valaris123 Jackup Drilling Rig is in position over the Tolmount platform, with drilling operations underway.  Drilling activity is planned for approximately 12 months (subject to further Kingfisher bulletins).

 

The Topaz Tiamat vessel will mobilise to the field w/c 23rd November to carry out a seabed metrology survey within the 500mz.

 

Please note that an Offshore Development Area has also been requested for the Tolmount Development Project work.

Marine Traffic Survey - Erebus Floating Offshore Wind Farm

A marine vessel traffic survey is due to be undertaken of the proposed Erebus Floating Offshore Wind Farm (FLOW) project. The survey will be undertaken from one survey vessel, ROVER ALPHA, CallSign: MLAS2 from 22nd November 2020 until 06th December 2020

The survey will collect data within the proposed main offshore array area (circa 43.5km2) and the offshore export cable route corridor (nominal 450m width) together with a buffer of up to 10km. The extent of the area in which the survey vessel may be located during the survey is shown in the attached figure with accompanying coordinates. The survey vessel will roam and/or remain on a nominal station within this area for an approximately 14 day duration depending on weather conditions. Dates may be subject to change. Operations Activity - Leman 27B & ERDA Combined

Combined Operations between Perenco Leman 27B Installation and Petrodec ERDA rig

Please be advised that the ERDA Jack-up Barge has completed transit to the Leman field where it is undertaking project work at the Leman 27B platform (removal of redundant equipment and lifting a pigging module onto the 27BT platform). The ERDA arrived in the field on 7th November with the work scope predicted to take 55 days (excluding weather downtime). The estimated latest departure date is 20th January 2021.

 

Please be advised that whilst the ERDA is at the Leman 27B location, the 27B navigational aids will be turned off. The ERDA navigational aids will remain operational.

 

The ERDA was previously known as the jack up barge Energy Endeavour and the name was changed to ERDA in September 2020.

Survey - 2AFRICA SUBSEA CABLE SYSTEM

Alcatel Submarine Networks has contracted Fugro to carry out a cable route survey for the proposed 2Africa cable systems. MV Fugro Meridian - Call Sign: C6QR4.

Please be advised that Fugro will be carrying out marine operations on behalf of Alcatel Submarine Networks for the 2AFRICA SUBSEA CABLE SYSTEMS.

 

The operations along the route will be carried out from approximately 5 December for approximately eight weeks. The exact finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

 

The vessel will be running a hull mounted multibeam echo sounder along several lines in a 500 to 1000 metre wide corridor centred on the proposed route. Towing equipment such as magnetometer and side scan sonar will be used throughout the works. Time to time the vessel will slow down or stop to measure water properties, as well as perform geotechnical measurements, necessary for this kind of study.

 

It is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance, maintaining at least a 1000 metre exclusion zone, and pass at minimum speed to reduce wake interference over the sensor readings.

Survey - North East Great Yarmouth

EGS (International) Ltd will be performing bathymetric seabed surveys at three locations in November, approximately 35 to 52 nm Northeast of Great Yarmouth, using our offshore survey vessel ‘EGS Pioneer’. Call Sign: 2EGS9

The survey is likely to be conducted over a 4 to 5 day period during a period of settled weather from the beginning to mid November 2020 and the vessel will be working constantly (24  hours) each day, this survey duration may be extended if poor weather delays completion.

The primary survey system will be a multibeam echosounder and the vessel will be surveying at a speed of approximately 3-4 knots. Whilst no towed systems will be deployed, the vessel will be steering along defined line plans, so please exercise caution around the vessel as significant course changes are likely.

Seagreen Offshore Windfarm, Seabed Obstruction

During survey operations a survey rod has been left protruding 1.8m from the seabed in position 56-35.909N 001-45.607W, this object constitutes a hazard to fishing vessels.

On behalf of Seagreen Offshore Windfarm Ltd, Seaway 7 will recover a 1.8m length of survey rod protruding from the seabed. These works will now be conducted on or around the 17th of November.

MV Edda Sun will now conduct the works. MV Edda Sun Call Sign: LARF7 will utilise a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) to complete the works.

Cable Repair - GTT Segment C

Following cable repair, cable exposed due rocky seabed conditions GTT Guard vessel is patrolling the area to promote awareness of the hazard to fisheries

Please be advised that following a recent cable repair to the GTT (Hibernia) Segment ‘C’ between Southport and Dublin, the cable has been deployed as follows:

 

Initial Splice:        53° 48.3613’N    04° 30.1514’W

Standing bight:   53° 48.2208’N    04° 29.4494’W

Final Splice:         53° 48.1279’N    04° 28.2360’W

 

It should be noted that throughout the extent of the cable repair, despite repeated attempts at post lay burial by an ROV, the predominantly very rocky seabed has meant that cable burial and hence protection has not been possible.

 

It should also be noted that at the position of the ‘standing bight’ the cable is standing upright from the seabed at a height of 0.4 metres, with a length over the ground of 2.0 metres.

 

All seabed users are requested not to deploy equipment which engages with the seabed in this area, to avoid snagging of the cable and particularly so, at the standing bight area.

Elgood to Blythe & Blythe to Thames, Pipeline Installations

This NtM relates to the installation of two pipelines from Elgood to Blythe and Blythe to Thames, in the UK sector of the southern North Sea.

Independent Oil and Gas (IOG) will be installing two gas pipelines in the southern North Sea, a 6-inch diameter pipeline from the Elgood field to the Blythe field and a 12-inch pipeline from the Blythe field to a tie-in point on the existing Thames pipeline. 

 

The area is in the UK Sector off the Norfolk coast.

 

During the second half of 2020 works will include surveys in advance of the pipeline installation, protecting sections of existing pipelines in readiness for the crossing by the new 12-inch pipeline, and the laying and trenching (burial) of the two pipelines.

 

Pipeline Installation Operations

Will be performed from the DP vessel Seven Navica,

Pipeline Protection Operations

The vessel will be deploying rock protection at specific positions on the 12-inch pipeline whilst maintaining position using DP; this will severely restrict her ability to manoeuvre.

Whilst performing these activities the vessels shall either be static or moving at an approximate speed of <1 knot. Vessel heading may not be indicative of direction of travel and operations will be conducted on a 24-hour basis.

 

The development area is being monitored by guard vessels MV Ardent and MV Moremma, which can be contacted on: VHF Ch. 16 for advice.

 

It is requested that all vessels within the area maintain a safe distance (500m) and pass at reduced speed.

 

Throughout these operations the vessels will be displaying the shapes and lights prescribed in the International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) Rule 27, (Vessels not under command or restricted in their ability to manoeuvre).

Dropped Mattress - Shell 34" Pipeline

The 6th mattress for the Shell 34” pipeline will be recovered between 14th November - 31st January 2021 by the Seven Falcon. The Fleximat dimensions are 6.4m x 3.0m x 0.5m Weight in Air 15860kg.

During overboarding of the 6th mattress for the Shell 34” pipeline, the crane wire parted when the matt was entering the splash zone at approx. 25m above seabed. The Fleximat dimensions are 6.4m x 3.0m x 0.5m Weight in Air 15860kg.

 

The mat was being overboarded 15m away from the 34” pipeline, the mattress and frame landed on the seabed 6m away from the 34” pipeline

A marine licence (ML/634) application has been submitted and approved by BEIS,  A variation to extend the marine licence to 14th November 2020 was approved by BEIS on 2nd November, and a second variation for extension to 31st January 2021 is now pending with BEIS.  This is due to scheduling delays due to poor weather.  The mattress frame and mattress will now be recovered by the Seven Falcon offshore support vessel.

In addition to the reported 15x boulder positions from 21 September, we have been informed of a further 19x boulders that have been dropped from the vessel 'Esperanza' in the Dogger Bank area. It is estimated these may be laying ~1m above the seabed.

Cable Installation - Havhingsten (Manx Waters)

The installation of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system has been granted marine licences and the pre-installation works & installation of the offshore section is expected to start on or around the 16 October in Manx Waters.

Please be advised that installation of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system is planned to commence from mid November onwards in the Isle of Man region.

 

The supplier of the Havhingsten cable is Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN). Intertek are the environmental and permitting consultants.

 

The entire cable system will comprise marine elements that pass from Denmark to the UK (NE region); from the UK (NW) to the Republic of Ireland; with two segments being installed into landfalls on the Isle of Man. 

 

Landfall will be made at Port Erin and Port Grenaugh.

 

Installation will be via industry standard burial tools including water jetting and ploughing. Target cable burial depth is 1.5m below seabed level in the Isle of Man region.

 

It is anticipated that installation operations in UK waters will occupy up to a maximum 500m width of the seabed (250m either side of cable). The cable itself will occupy only 40mm of the seabed.

 

Shore-end tie-in at Port Grenaugh:

The Beach Manhole (BMH) is where the interface between the marine cable and terrestrial cable will be permanently housed. At Port Grenaugh the BMH will be constructed above the MHWS ahead of the marine installation.

 

Direct landing at Port Grenaugh will take place on Thursday 3 December and is expected to take up to 1 day.

 

Shore-end tie-in at Port Erin:

The Beach Manhole (BMH) is where the interface between the marine cable and terrestrial cable will be permanently housed. At Port Erin the BMH will be constructed above the MHWS ahead of the marine installation.

 

Direct landing at Port Erin will take place on Sunday 13 December and is expected to take up to 1 day.

 

Pre-installation works:

Prior to the start of marine cable installation, it is essential to ensure the marine cable corridor route is clear of obstructions that may hinder the installation works. A pre-lay grapnel run (PLGR) will be undertaken to clear any seabed debris, such as lost fishing gear. The PLGR run will be conducted over the length of the proposed cable route prior to installation and commencing at a target rate of 25km per day.

 

PLGR works will start on Sunday 15 November and undertaken by the Wilson Adriatic. The cable corridor has been split up into 6 blocks to provide a clearer indication of dates of the PLGR and installation works; please see figures below and table of timings.

 

Offshore installation, ploughing and cable lay:

The cable will be installed with two branches into the Isle of Man, one into Port Erin and another into Port Grenaugh.  The cable will be buried using a submarine cable plough. The burial progress speed is relatively slow and is normally between 0.5 – 1 km/hour and subject to seabed type, burial depth and weather.

 

Cable installation will start on Friday 4 December and undertaken by the Ile de Batz. The cable corridor has been split up into 6 blocks to provide a clearer indication of dates of the PLGR and installation works; please see figures below and table of timings.

Relocated Unexploded Ordnance - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm

Following unsuccessful clearance activities at some of the confirmed Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) items, six UXOs have been relocated to date within the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm and Export Cable Corridor.

These UXO items either do not contain a fuse or are confirmed as solid shots and clearance by detonation is not likely to be possible. As such, relocation of the item is necessary. The item will be relocated to a position outwith the construction areas, but within the boundaries of the NnG licensed area, as permitted by the Marine Licence.

Construction of wind farm - Moray East

Due to the construction of the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm, there are several elements to this notice - safety zones; construction schedule; and buoy positions.

Safety Zones

Please be advised that the Scottish Ministers have authorised the use of the safety zones during construction and operation of the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm as detailed below.

 

During construction

  • A 500 metre radius around each WTG and OSP where construction works are taking place that include sensitive activities being undertaken by vessels RAM. A maximum of three of such zones is permitted at any one time. 
  • A 50 metre radius around partially completed WTGs and OSPs where work is not underway and the risk assessments identify a need. 
  • A 50 metre radius around each completed WTG and OSP prior to commissioning and as required by a risk assessment process. 

During major maintenance

  • A 500 metre radius around all major maintenance works being undertaken around the WTGs and OSPs. No more than one major maintenance zone is permitted at any one time.

Construction Activities

It is currently anticipated that weather permitting offshore construction works will be carried out on a continuous basis (i.e. 24 hour working, seven days a week) unless notified otherwise.

 

Please be aware that by virtue of its mode of operation and the equipment deployed, construction vessels listed in the table below may be Restricted in their Ability to Manoeuvre as defined under COLREGS (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, Rule 3). Masters of vessels are therefore requested to maintain their vessels and gears at a minimum safe distance from these vessels of 500 metres when they are undertaking it work and showing the appropriate shapes and lights.  Further Notice to Mariners will be issued as construction progresses.

Please be advised that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited (Moray East) are carrying out Inter Array Cable Testing and Termination Works within the bounds of site 1. The Testing and Termination Works will be carried out from the Offshore Substation Platforms and Wind Turbine Generators. Personnel and equipment for these works will be based on the Offshore Support Vessel, Siem Barracuda. Personnel and equipment will be transported by the Siem Barracuda between Offshore Substation Platforms and Wind Turbine Generators. Siem Barracuda will be completing Testing and Termination works on the cable routes identified in Figure 3. Siem Barracuda will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre during transfer of personnel and equipment to and from the Offshore Substation Platforms and Wind Turbine Generators. The overall work scope will be carried out in 2 campaigns – Campaign 1 commencing 11/11/20 to 23/01/20 and Campaign 2 commencing 04/04/21 to 11/06/21.

Subsea power cable - laying and trenching operations - Moray Offshore Windfarm (East)

Please be advised that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited (Moray East) are planning to commence (x3 export routes – wind farm to landfall) cable laying and trenching operations (two separate vessels) circa 27th July 2020

Vessel “NKT Victoria” will be laying the subsea power cables; three export cables between the Moray East offshore wind farm site and the cable landfall (via three separate drilled HDD ducts near Boyndie Bay). Vessel “Havila Phoenix” will be undertaking operations to bury these three subsea power cables below the seabed, via means of remotely operated trenching vehicles. Cable laying is expected to be completed by circa 3rd October 2020. Cable trenching is expected to be ongoing until early November but will be followed by a separate campaign to install remedial protection over the cables on any remaining unburied/unprotected sections. Details on remedial campaign(s) will be provided nearer the time of execution. The above dates include some weather contingency, however the operations may be subject to further extension.

 

Please be aware that by virtue of its mode of operation the NKT Victoria and Havila Phoenix will be Restricted in their Ability to Manoeuvre (RAM) as defined under COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, Rule 3). Masters of vessels are therefore requested to maintain their vessels and gears at a minimum safe distance from the vessel of 500 metres when it is undertaking work and showing the appropriate shapes and lights in accordance with COLREGs Rule 18. Seabed Activity Bluemull Sound (Shetland) – Subsea Tidal Array

The purpose of the operation is to conduct work on a subsea tidal energy array in the Bluemull Sound, Shetland.

A multicat vessel the Leask Marine MV C-Fenna (call sign MBAH3) or a similar vessel will conduct offshore and subsea operations. Works will include loading and preparatory work at Cullivoe Pier and Belmont Pier. The work will be conducted over the months of November, December and January 2020. Operations could take place during the day or at night.   Operations will be conducted within the works area bounded by points A/B/C/D below and up to 50m either side of the cable corridor route; see waypoints below.

Export Cable Installation - Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm

Please be advised that associated vessels will be carrying out Cable Installation operations in the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm export cable corridor.

A 1500m clearance zone needs to be maintained around the main vessel.

 

During this period, the cable installation vessels will utilise pre-defined areas along the export cable route for temporary storage of anchors as detailed in the following of coordinates.  All wet stored anchors are expected to be visible on the waterline with the support of a buoy arrangement complete with white flashing marker light. Mariners should therefore be advised to avoid entering these areas, and where possible, give the area a wide berth.

 

The vessel 'Rockpiper' is expected on site on or around the 01st October 2020 to commence rock placement operations. Guard vessels 'Glomar Arctic' and 'Glomar Advantage' will be employed to support export cable installation operation.

Nearshore Duct Preparation Scope - Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm

Boskalis and Triton Knoll would like to inform mariners that the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm – Nearshore Duct Preparations in the Triton Knoll Offshore Windfarm Project Area.

The Voe Vanguard will be carrying out Nearshore Duct Preparations Works at the Triton Knoll OWF development for approximately 2 weeks, with works due to commence on or around the 14th May 2020.  The Support Vessel 'CRC Voyager' will commute to and from the works area, from Grimsby.

 

During operations, the Voe Vanguard can be contacted on VHF channel 16 throughout.

 

A 500 metre clearance should be maintained around the following works vessels.

Temporarily Uncovered Mattresses- Seagull/Madoes Umbilical Crossing Location. Recently placed mattresses that have been deployed could pose a snagging hazard. This will be rectified (via rock placement) within the next 10 days.

As part of the Seagull development, mattresses have been deployed across the Madoes/Seagull Umbilical crossing location that will be covered by rock placement. Until the rock placement takes place, these mattresses could pose a snagging hazard- this is believed to be unlikely due to their design and placement within a naturally created trench but this alert is a precautionary measure. 

 

For information, the rock placement will take place over the next 10 days and this notice will be closed following confirmation of completion of operations.

Inter Array Cable Burial works - Moray East Wind Farm

Please be advised that Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited (Moray East) are carrying out Inter Array Cable (IAC) burial works within the bounds of site

The cable trenching (post lay burial) will be completed by tracked- on bottom trenching tools. WROV surveys will be conducted once the cable is buried.

 

Two trenching support vessels ,Grand Canyon 3 and the Boskalis Ndeavor, will be completing operations on the cable routes identified in Figure 2.

 

Both vessels will complete launch and recovery operations of the trenching tools, and will be restricted in their ability to manoeuvre during trenching and WROV operations.

The overall work scope will be carried out in 2 campaigns – Campaign 1, commencing 07/11/20 to 03/01/20 and Campaign 2, commencing 20/02/21 to 12/05/21.

Perenco UK Limited plan to complete a pre-decommissioning survey of the PL76 pipeline (UKCS block 49/18 and 49/23), utilising the Noordhoek Pathfinder. The survey is due to commence 6th November 2020 (at the earliest) with an expected duration of 1 day.

The pre-decommissioning surevy of the PL76 pipeline, located in the Inde field (UKCS block 49/18 and 49/23) will consist of side scan sonar, multi beam echo sounder, sub bottom profiler and environmental grab samples along the 4.5km route of the pipeline.

 

The survey is planned to commence on 6th November 2020 (at the earliest) with an estimated duration of 1 day.

 

The survey will be completed using N-Sea's multi purpose vessel the Noordhoek Pathfinder.

 

Please note - upon completion of the survey the Noordhoek Pathfinder will continue with a suite of Perenco surveys. The expected duration of the survey suite is 13 days, with a atest end date of 6th December 2020.

Sound measurement study Hywind Scotland Pilot Park

Hywind Scotland Pilot Park is performing a sound measurement study where the purpose is to document the operational noise from floating offshore wind turbines and their substructures, mooring lines and cables.

As part of the Hywind Scotland Wind Park, Equinor has subcontracted Jasco Applied Sciences to perform sound recordings in the park area and in a control location in Buchan Deep (near cross over point between the FORTIES to CRUDEN Bay oil line and the GAS line). See map and positions below.

 

The purpose of the sound measurement study is to document the operational noise from floating offshore wind turbines and their substructures, mooring lines and cables. It is part of an internal Equinor Research &Technology project that aims to increase knowledge on possible environmental implications of floating offshore wind, i.e. in this particular study, the possible impact ranges of sound from the wind park on marine mammals and fish. The results from the sound measurement study is important also for further technology development.

 

The Equinor contracted “MCS Swath1” (crew vessel) will be used for the deployment and retrieval of the sound recorder equipment (hydrophones). The field activity in connection with both deployment and retrieval will take one day, however, the recording period will be approximately 3 months from ultimo October 2020 to ultimo January 2021.

 

The recorders were deployed October 21. Yet, no exact date is set for the retrieval of the equipment (ultimo January 2021).

 

All Equinor installed equipment shall remain in position for the duration of the survey, but all equipment will be removed from seabed when the recording period is over. Also, there will be no bouys on sea surface or lines in the water column. All equipment will be placed on sea floor at approximately 100 meters depth by the help of an anchoring plate, which fastens the equipment and eliminates drifting of equipment. The equipment will have a height of maximum 1 meter above seabed, and the plate mooring system has the dimension 914 x 527 x 864 mm.

 

This equipment collects data and information of environmental importance and could get damaged or lost if trawled over.

 

When the equipment is retrieved, the acoustic release will be activated and the equipment will be lifted by crane.

Lidar Deployment - East Anglia Two Wind Farm

The buoy has been temporarily recovered from site leaving some mooring components and the anchor weight on the seabed

The mooring and anchor weight remains on the seabed at the location. It should be noted that part of the remaining mooring is buoyant and therefore poses a risk of entanglement for passing vessels. To avoid risk of entanglement, vessels should allow a minimum 200 m clearance from the location.

The mooring design is specific to each SWLB deployment and location. The equipment is moored through a combination of steel chains, rope and rubber cord to approximately 2250 kg anchor weight at the seabed.

Scientific mooring deployments - West of Orkney and Thurso Bay

Partrac Ltd. Installed marine sensors at 3 sites in Thurso bay and west of Orkney on Stormy bank, over the period 15th to 17th October 2020.

Sub-surface moorings will be deployed at three survey locations, each marked with a simple surface buoy positioned ~200m from the instrument location. A surface moored wave buoy will also be deployed at Survey point 5. The wave buoy is fitted with a 2m whip antenna, with a light sequence of Y.Fl.5(20s)

Deployment of oceanographic sensors - Dee Estuary

Oceanographic sensors will be deployed for a period of 12 months at 4 locations at the mouth and to the north of the Dee Estuary.

The sensors will be deployed in early November 2020 using the Port of Mostyn workboat, Eileen. Each location will be marked by a yellow surface buoy with a yellow 'X' topmark and will be lit with characteristics Fl.Y.(5)20s.

 

A 50m exclusion is requested from the marker buoy. Each location will be visited at 3 month intervals for mooring maintenence, using the Port of Mostyn workboat, Eileen.

Survey - Gwynt y Môr Windfarm

Benthic survey work is due to be carried out to the south and west of Gwynt y Môr Offshore windfarm during November 2020.

The vessel Aquatech Surveyor is due to undertake benthic drop down camera and Day grap survey for scientific monitoring purposes to the south and west of the Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm.  The location of the survey work is shown in the Notice to Mariners.

 

Survey operations started during September 2020.  Work has paused to allow time for vessel maintenance and will resume in early-mid November 2020.  There will be approximately 5 days at sea, weather dependent.

 

The vessel will operate on a 24 hour basis from Holyhead in North Wales.  Survey operations will be limited to daylight hours with the vessel anchoring inshore overnight.

 

During the survey operations the vessel will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre.

 

The vessel will remain on each survey station location for a period of approximately 15 minutes.  Umbilical cable may potentially trail from the vessel by up to 25m during deployment, depending on tidal conditions.

 

Other vessels are requested to keep well clear and pass slowly with a wide berth.

The survey vessel will monitor VHF Channel 16 at all times.

Survey - Eastern HVDC Cable Torness to Hawthorn Pit

SSEN, National Grid and ST has contracted Fugro GM Marine Limited to carry out a Geophysical and Geotechnical site investigation located between Torness and Hawthorn Pit, United Kingdom, in the southern North Sea for the proposed Eastern HVDC Link site.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSEN) as the Transmission Owner (TO) for northern Scotland, SP Transmission plc (SPT) as the TO for the central belt and south of Scotland, and National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (‘National Grid’) as the TO for England and Wales, are working together to develop the two links.

 

The Torness to Hawthorn Pit link will be jointly developed by SPT and National Grid. The link between Peterhead and Drax will be jointly developed by SSEN and National Grid. SSEN, National Grid and ST has contracted Fugro GM Marine Limited (Fugro) to carry out a Geophysical and Geotechnical site investigation located between Torness and Hawthorn Pit, United Kingdom, in the southern North Sea for the proposed Eastern HVDC Link site.

 

This Notice to Mariners will be updated and reissued periodically as additional vessels are planned to come on site. For operations in 2020, current planning indicates a total of 3 vessels being on site between the period 21st October 2020 and early December 2020. It should be noted these dates are subject to change and the total number of vessels could increase. Brown & May Marine (BMM) will distribute updated revisions of this notice as early possible before any additional vessels arrive on site. 

 

Offshore Geophysical Survey - (>15m LAT)  Fugro Venturer Call Sign: C6CG3

Offshore Geophysical operations at the Eastern HVDC Link site are expected to be carried out from the Fugro Venturer from the 21st October for approximately 5-6 weeks. Please note that the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

 

As the Fugro Venturer will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large turning circles therefore it is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance, maintaining at least the 1,000 m exclusion including in the survey area buffer (coordinates above), and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

Nearshore Geophysical operations at the Eastern HVDC Link site are expected to be carried out from the Fugro Valkyrie from the 22nd October for approximately 6-7 weeks. Please note that the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress. It is expected that works will commence at Torness with subsequent transit to Hawthorn Pit.

 

As the Fugro Valkyrie will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large turning circles therefore it is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance, maintaining at least the 500 m exclusion including in the survey area buffer (coordinates above), and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

 

Survey operations will be conducted on a daylight only basis (06:00 – 18:00).

Prior to rock placement there is a maximum of 50m of cable surface laid at a cable crossing. It is advised that extra care is taken when vessels are operating near this area and that no vessel should trawl within 250m.

Please be advised that, installation of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system is almost complete in the Eastern Irish Sea.

 

The supplier of the Havhingsten cable is Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN). Intertek are the environmental and permitting consultants.

 

The entire cable system will comprise marine elements that pass from Denmark to the UK (NE region); from the UK (NW) to the Republic of Ireland; with two segments being installed into landfalls on the Isle of Man. 

 

The cable route for the eastern Irish Sea region (UK Northwest and Isle of Man) is shown below.

 

Installation was via industry standard burial tools including water jetting and ploughing. Cable burial has been performed to a target of 1.5m.

 

The Havhingsten cable crosses 2 pipelines within the Eastern Irish Sea, 1 of which will require external rock protection (Western HVDC link). Post-rock installation is now expected in March 2021. The cable crossing is located approximately 50km offshore.

 

Prior to rock placement there is a maximum of 25m of cable surface laid with Uraduct protection either side of the crossing. Coordinates of the crossing are provided in the table below. It is advised that extra care is taken when vessels are operating near the area and that no vessel should trawl within 250m from the listed coordinates.

Noise monitoring frame(steel 1m3 frame approx. 40kg), hydrophone,riser buoy,clumped(100kg chain clump weight) & 50m Dyneema riser line(dia.~25 mm)remain after the riser line was severed below the surface buoy.Surface marker buoy and pellet buoy recovered.

The riser line was severed below the surface buoy and it has not been possible to recover the items. Investigations as to the cause of the loss are ongoing.

Survey - Berwick Bank Wind Farm and Marr Bank Wind Farm

SSE Renewables will be undertaking a subtidal benthic survey of the Berwick Bank Wind Farm and Marr Bank Wind Farm areas, and cable routes.The survey will be within the proposed Berwick Bank and Marr Bank wind farm site boundaries and export cable routes.

The survey work is being undertaken by Ocean Ecology and will be conducted from the Marshall Art Call Sign: 2HWN3 and Seren Las Call Sign: MDAH2 vessels.

 

Survey Tasks The survey is to be split into 2 distinct areas using the offshore survey vessels: 1. Survey work covering the Berwick Bank Wind Farm and Marr Bank Wind Farm areas and the cable route further offshore in deeper water will be undertaken by the Marshall Art and will likely take approx. 10 days to complete (24hr operations possible) 2. Survey work covering the cable routes closer to shore in shallower waters will be undertaken by the Seren Las and will likely take 10 days to complete (12hr operations only)

During the survey campaign, the vessels will be deploying underwater equipment in order to gather data on the ecology of the seabed. These include grab sampling, drop down camera work and scientific beam trawls. However, despite equipment being deployed and the modes of operation, SSE Renewables are not requesting a 500m clearance at this time. The vessels will be generally unrestricted in their movements and will adhere to normal navigation protocol.

Rock Replacement Operations on a short area (4m) of partial exposure of Export Cable EC2 is in the vicinity of the mid cable joint at the location where the cable changes direction. Vessel MV Olympic Artemis Call sign: LAFV8. Work Commencement date TBC.

ROn behalf of Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd, MV Olympic Artemis Call sign: LAFV8 will deploy rock bags over a four-metre section of exposed export cable.

During this operation the MV Olympic Artemis will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre and will be displaying the appropriate lights and day signals. All vessels are there for requested to give a wide berth when passing.

 

At present the MFV Reaper is acting as a guard vessel at this location, further information is available in previously issued Beatrice notice to mariners NTM-BE-00005 - Export Cable Guard Vessel. MFV Reaper will remain on location throughout operations until the partial exposure has been proven to be satisfactorily covered.

Abandoned Well - 15/22-16

This wellhead has been removed from the seabed.

The Wellhead has been cut ~11ft below seabed. An explosive charge was subsequently used to free the wellhead for recovery. A seabed clearance survey has been completed to a radius of 100m via ROV and the seabed has been confirmed to be clear and reinstated. A seabed Clearance Certificate has been issued.

 

Contrary to the original plan, the wellhead has not been recovered. Following a successful controlled explosive severance detonation it is probable that the stump has relocated into  a void that was created during the detonation at the cutting depth below the seabed surface, that was big enough to swallow the length of cut casing. The subsequent 100 metre radius ROV search of the well area failed to identify any presence of the wellhead, hence the operation was terminated without wellhead recovery, and the abandonment is considered complete.

Construction of Wind Farm (Neart na Gaoithe)

Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited (NnGOWL) will commence construction work for Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm, from the 9th August 2020, with the start of casing and pile installation operations on the wind farm site.

NnGOWL is developing the NnG Offshore Wind Farm, jointly owned by EDF Renewables and ESB, which is located in the outer Firth of Forth, Scotland. The NnG wind farm area is 15 km east off Fife Ness and 29 km from the East Lothian coastline and covers an area of 105 km2

The wind farm consists of 54 no. wind turbines (WTGs) and 2 no. Offshore Substation Platforms (OSPs), with a total capacity of approximately 45 0MW. Water depths across the offshore wind farm area generally range from 40 to 60 m below LAT. The generated power will be transmitted to the grid via two subsea export cable circuits which will reach landfall at Thorntonloch Beach, East Lothian, Scotland. Specific details and location of activities within the Wind Farm Area and Export Cable Corridor will be provided via subsequent notices as work progresses.

Export Cable Installation - Hornsea Project Two

Ørsted have commenced the dredging scope for export cable installation and will be commencing pre-lay grapnel run activities on or around the 23rd August 2020 and are continuing construction of the Hornsea Project Two Offshore Wind Farm.

Array Cable Seabed Preparation and Installation World Marine Offshore will be commencing pre-lay grapnel run activities using the Wilson Adriatic Call Sign: OYOJ2 on or around 23rd August 2020. Cable installation and burial activities will commence in Q1 2020 through to Q2 2021. Works will be continual and intermittent throughout this period. The works will be undertaken by a number of vessels at different times according to the Project schedule

 

Note that the vessels will have limited manoeuvrability, some vessels will be operating on anchors, and it is requested that all vessels operating near the vessels maintain a safe distance (at least 500m) and pass all vessels at minimum speed.

 

The Boskalis will be temporarily wet storing a cable at the location provided on or around 9th September until 7th October 2020. A guard vessel will be present whilst the cable is being wet stored but it is advised that mariners maintain a safe clearance. Boskalis will be commencing trenching with the Boka Falcon on or around the 10th September to 12th October 2020.

Floating LiDAR System - Seagreen Alpha and Bravo windfarms

Seagreen Wind Energy Limited has replaced the Floating LiDAR System (FLS) at the location shown

The replacement FLS was deployed on the boundary of the Seagreen Alpha and Seagreen Bravo offshore wind farms in the Firth of Forth Offshore Wind Round 3 Zone off the east coast of Scotland. The replacement FLS is approximately 600m to the south-west of the previous location.

 

The FLS buoy will remain deployed for up to 1 additional year from this date. Service visits will occur at approximately 3-month intervals over this period.

 

The FLS is buoy mounted and is moored using 150 m long DIN 5683-II mooring chain Ø26 x 234 mm and 3 tonne concrete anchor. The buoy is powered by solar panels and micro wind turbine generators. The buoy is yellow (RAL 1023) in colour and will be clearly marked with two navigation lights (flashing amber, 5 flashes every 20 seconds, nominal range 3-6 nm visibility). The buoy is fitted with a Radar reflector. A service vessel will be on station for approximately four hours during service and recovery visits. Other vessels should maintain a safe distance when passing the vessel and should pass at lowest possible speed to avoid vessel wash effects.

Completion of Explosive Ordnance - Hornsea Project Two

Mariners are advised that the Explosive Ordnance Detonation (EOD) phase for the pre-construction stage of Hornsea Project Two is now completed.

Hornsea Project Two confirms the presence of 7 Unexploded Ordnance (cUXO) and 2 suspected UXO (sUXO) which remain undetonated within the Hornsea Project Two Wind Farm area. There are no plans to clear these remaining UXO.

All vessels are requested to maintain the required safe distances as defined from the coordinates

 

It should be noted that ongoing seabed preparation for construction, as well as construction activities themselves, may identify further UXO which may need to be cleared from the site. Separate notices will be issued in this case.

The wet storage area will, when complete, consist of eight by one tonne gabions with two sections of redundant caisson resting on them. The two caisson sections are 20 metres and 18.5 meters in length weighing 18.4 tonnes and 10.3 tonnes respectively. Six by one tonne gabions were placed on the seabed with the 20 meter section of caisson resting atop of them on the 12th of June 2020. The date when the second 18.5 meter section of caisson will be position in the wet storage area has not yet been determined.

Export Cable Installation (Beach) - Hornsea Project Two

Ørsted are continuing construction of the Hornsea Project Two Offshore Wind Farm. Preparatory works for export cable installation at the beach landfall and in the nearshore area have commenced.

Cable installation activities will be ongoing an intermittent at the landfall until 30th September 2020 and will re-commence after 1st April 2021.

 

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES:

Landfall Preparation and Cable Installation Please be advised that export cable installation activities will be commencing at the landfall at Horseshoe Point, Lincolnshire from 20th July 2020 through to 30th September 2020. Works will then re-commence on or after 1st April 2021 until 30th September 2021. Works will be continual and intermittent throughout these periods.

 

The works will involve vehicles and construction activities on the beach down to the low water mark and will also include a beached transport barge, nearshore cable laying vessel and other vessels and anchors and other submerged hazards at high water which will be marked, where required. Note that the vessels will have limited manoeuvrability, some vessels will be operating on anchors, and it is requested that all vessels operating or travelling near the vessels maintain a safe distance (at least 500m) and pass all vessels at minimum speed.

Exposed Subsea Cable - Apollo South

On behalf of Apollo SCS Ltd, fishermen are advised that following a repair to the Apollo South subsea telecoms cable there now exists a section of exposed/unburied cable.

Due to the nature of the seabed in this area the cable may be exposed and could be a hazard to fishing. Fishermen are asked to ensure that they have the route of the Apollo South cable accurately plotted on their fishing charts. Trawler skippers are respectfully asked to exercise caution when trawling in the vicinity of the Apollo South cable and to keep beyond a distance of at least 500 metres from the charted cable route and, where at all possible, to avoid trawling directly over the cable route. Static gear fishermen are advised not to deploy anchors and end weights in close proximity to the cable.

Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Limited (NnGOWL) have completed the deployment of four Cardinal buoys around the Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm site.

The marker buoys will remain in place until the construction of Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm is complete.

Post decommissioning of the MacCulloch FPSO / Field in UKCS Block 15/24, a Guard Vessel is no longer in position at the location of the Tie-In Skid at MacCulloch 

After the decommissioning of the MacCulloch FPSO / Field in UKCS Block 15/24, a Guard Vessel is no longer in position. 

 

The Donan (Dumbarton) Field, located in UKCS Block 15/20, has an out of use Gas Export pipeline (PL2324) which is still connected to a Tie-In Skid located within the previous MacCulloch subsea 500m zone. 

 

Please be aware that this subsea Tie-In Skid remains in place at this location.  The structure has been notified and recorded on the NDR / FishSafe websites since 2006/07, but has been previously monitored by the guard vessel.

Cable Repairs - IFA 2 Interconnector Project

Cable works for the IFA2 project are continuing at KP170.3 of IFA2 RPL (50°39.117'N 000°50.855'W)

Cables Repair works of the HVDC bundle in the vicinity of KP170 are continuing.

 

The Jack up ring Brave Tern will be deploying 2 yellow cable marker buoy approx. 150m apart and from each one a line 15m long with A4 buoys attached. It is expected that one will be placed in the water on 17/18 March 2020 and it is anticipated that they will remain in situ for at least two weeks.

 

Vessels should pass at a safe speed and distance (approximately 500 metres) from all construction and support vessels. During these works the vessels will have restricted maneuverability as they complete their work scope.

 

Deployed Guard Vessels will monitor the exposed areas of cable while works progresses and advise of safe distances locally.

Breagh Pipelines - Exposed Fibre Optic Cable

The Breagh fibre optic cable (PL2770) is exposed on the seabed along various stages of the route between Redcar and the Breagh A platform.

A scallop dredger became snagged on an exposed section of the fibre optic cable in June 2019 causing serious damage to the fibre optic cable and subsequently had to abandon retrieval of his gear for safety reasons.  This notification is made to the fishermen, operating between Redcar and the Breagh A platform, to be advised that the fibre optic cable represents a serious snag risk to both scallop dredgers and static gear fishing in the vicinity of the line.

 

Fishermen are advised to stay away from the line to avoid the risk of becoming snagged on the unburied sections of cable.

During recent maintenance work at Turbine position C06 several objects were dropped on the seabed. The biggest being a Bearing Transport Frame (1800mm x 2236mm x 830mm) weight – 947kg as well as 33m of steel Crane Wire and several smaller objects.
